Taking Justice Online:
The New Face Of Dispute Resolution
Above (and here) is the video recording of our webinar Taking Justice Online: The New Face Of Dispute Resolution which took place via Zoom on Thursday 5 November 2020.
The Franco-British Lawyers Society and LMS Legal LLP were delighted to hold this webinar on the increasing use of technology in hearings, whether as part of litigation, mediation, arbitration or other alternative methods to resolve disputes.
We were very privileged to have
Lord Lloyd-Jones, Justice of the Supreme Court. Lord Lloyd-Jones is a British judge and legal scholar. He is currently a Justice of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom and served earlier as a member of the Court of Appeal of England and Wales and as a chairman of the Law Commission. In 2005, he was appointed as a High Court judge, and was assigned to the Queen’s Bench Division. He served as presiding judge on the Wales and Chester Circuit and chairman of the Lord Chancellor‘s Standing Committee on the Welsh Language from 2008 to 2011. On 1 October 2012, Lloyd Jones was appointed a Lord Justice of Appeal, and was appointed to the Privy Council on 7 November 2012.
We also had the pleasure of having our panel composed of the following guests, each focusing on one area of dispute resolution:
Anneliese Day QC, Barrister at Fountain Court Chambers. Anneliese is frequently instructed in high-value and complex cases, both as counsel and arbitrator. She has extensive experience in commercial, energy and infrastructure, conflicts of law, investment treaty, insurance, professional liability and shareholder disputes in both a national and international context.
Jason Galbraith-Marten QC, Director of Assurety. Assurety is the only top-ranked provider of witness familiarization in Chambers and Partners 2020. Highly experienced in cross-examining witnesses and arguing cases in the highest courts. They established the business after realising from their time in court that not enough was being done to prepare witnesses effectively for the real experience of being cross-examined in litigation and arbitration proceedings, as well as in other alternative dispute resolution scenarios.
Mia Forbes Pirie, Mia is an international mediator and winner of the UK Independent Mediator of the Year 2021 Corporate INTL award. She has a background in law and science. In addition to her corporate clients and former career as a solicitor in a top City of London law firm, Mia has worked with governments, religious organisations and Members of Parliament. She has advised the US Department of Energy on using facilitated negotiation to develop controversial legislation.
Leonardo Carpentieri, Counsel in the London office of LMS Legal LLP. Leonardo assists both commercial clients and sovereigns in investment treaty as well as commercial arbitration proceedings before major arbitral institutions such as the ICC and ICSID. Leonardo’s practice focuses mainly on construction, energy, and infrastructure projects located in the Middle East and the African continent.
