The success of the webinars which we organised during the summer on the fraught topic of Brexit has encouraged us to pursue the theme of finding eminent and expert speakers to discuss calmly and soberly the public policy questions presented by Brexit and the dangers of an unprepared severance of the UK from its 27 EU partners. The first two events attracted a large attendance and several of you have expressed how much you learned and how much you appreciated the magisterial summation by my predecessor as a judge at the Tribunal de l’Union, Sir David Edward QC LLD.
Our next webinar on the public policy problems presented by the UK’s departure from the EU will take place on the morning of Wednesday October 21 and will deal with competition and state aids. The speakers will include the eminent former practitioner and current competition judge, Peter Freeman QC CBE, and Thomas Tindemans, an expert analyst of European politics, our own Carol Xueref, a judge for fourteen years at the French Competition Authority , and Ms Anneli Howard, a specialised barrister at Monckton Chambers, who will describe some of the problems for practitioners. Sir David is once more ready to sum matters up at the end. I will be the chairman.
So, mark your calendars for 10 30 London / 11 30 Paris on Wednesday October 21. Zoom invitations will be sent to those who express interest. As we have a technical limit on the number of participants, please reserve early. Attendance is free. The proceedings will be recorded and posted to our website. I look forward to another stimulating discussion of public policy and Bexit.
Ian Forrester QC, LLD, President FBLS.
