This is to let you know that our preparations for the maritime colloque have been proceeding intensely and we are extremely grateful that once again, the services of the Secrétariat général de la Mer, the British and the French Embassies, the Royal Navy, the Marine nationale are uniting to propose this unique legal, naval and academic maritime colloquium, inaugurated in 2006 at EOCM Lanveoc-Brest, then at Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth held since alternatively in Greenwich-London and Paris.
The colloque itself, entitled “Beyond jurisdictions?” which is of especial importance given the need for heightened cooperation between France and the UK, will take place exceptionally at the Residence of the French Embassy in Kensington Palace Gardens on the Friday on the subjects of undersea cables, deep sea beds, autonomous vehicles and jurisdiction beyond jurisdiction.
The program is still subject to potential modifications. Speakers may elect to speak in English or in French. Proceedings of the event shall be published later in the year.
Thanks to the Royal Navy, at the invitation of the First Sea Lord, after the colloque we will go (by boat, for those interested to share our commute) down river to Greenwich for a black-tie dinner in the Painted Hall an artistic landmark thanks to the work of Sir James Thornhill, the father-in-law of Hogarth on the ceiling. The renovation of the splendid ceiling was accomplished last year and the result is spectacular.
For the moment, recognizing the nearness of the date, we are offering an early bird reduction for those who reserve swiftly. Specifically, the cost of attending the colloque will be 100 euros for members (early birds: 80 euros), 150 euros for non-members (early birds: 110 euros). Students and naval personnel are invited for free at the colloquium. The dinner in the Painted Hall will cost 35 euros for students and naval personnel, 120 euros for members and for 175 euros for non-members. Attendees may invite up to two additional guests.
Places are limited for each category.
