Rt Hon The Lord Kerr Of Tonaghmore PC
It is with great regret the Society has received news of the death of Lord Kerr, the last of the original members of the Supreme Court Of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. As Sir Brian Kerr, Lord Chief Justice of Northern Ireland he became Patron of the Society when the first Belfast Colloquium was launched in June 2007 at the Inn of Court, Royal Courts Of Justice in Belfast with the Society’s then Président Dominique Hascher. Lord Kerr’s support established the Society in Northern Ireland and led to the creation of the Section in Belfast in 2014, under Fionnuala Connolly. Not only did Lord Kerr continue as Patron Of the Society but he handed over the ‘bâton’ to Sir Declan Morgan, Lord Chief Justice of Northern Ireland. He will be sadly missed by all, particularly those of us in the Society who had met him, but, his legacy will continue and is much appreciated. The Society’s thoughts are with Lady Kerr, her family and their friends.
